The State of the Art Congress (SOA), held in Birmingham from 27 – 29 June 2023, was the largest multi-professional intensive care congress in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. The event surpassed all expectations, attracting over 1,500 attendees from more than 25 countries.

The hybrid event, combining the best of both in-person and virtual experience, allowed professionals from around the world to participate and engage. It featured over 120 speakers, with renowned experts, researchers, and clinical leaders covering the latest advancements in intensive care – and showcased the cutting-edge technology and innovation from over 50 industry sponsors and exhibitors.

With their combined expertise, ICS and Haymarket created an event that received outstanding feedback from everyone involved.

The ICS, a respected professional society dedicated to the advancement of intensive care medicine, provided the scientific and clinical expertise that formed the foundation of the congress. They curated a remarkable programme, featuring renowned speakers, workshops, and panel discussions that covered a wide range of topics.

Haymarket’s Medical Associations team, renowned for their experience in organising medical congresses, provided event planning and operational management, including poster submission management and displays, while directly managing all sponsorship and exhibitions sales. Their expertise in understanding the needs of healthcare professionals was instrumental in ensuring ongoing industry support and a seamless flow of events.

“We couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this collaboration. SOA 2023 was a true testament to the power of effective partnerships,” said Anton Riolo, Haymarket’s Medical Associations Director. “The teams worked tirelessly together, bringing their unique strengths to the table. The result was an exceptional congress that exceeded expectations in every aspect.”

Dr Sandy Mather, CEO of the Intensive Care Society commented: “A great result for us all to celebrate! Many thanks to everyone who has been involved – this is the result of an amazing amount of collaborative teamwork across our partnership. We’ve really enjoyed working with Haymarket.”

“The teams at both organisations deserve immense praise for their hard work and dedication. Their effective partnership was the driving force behind the success of the congress,” said Sandie Pears, Haymarket’s Group Director of Medical and Professional Associations.
